If this is your first time at Simple Sewendipity and you are visiting from the Plum & June Blog Hop, welcome! My name is Stephanie and
I’m a quilter (who leans to the modern side) from the Seacoast area of New
Hampshire. I work part-time in the non-profit world, have two small
girls who already seem to be little drama queens, and still try to find time to
sew and be crafty. Oh
yeah, and I’m also a ridiculously skilled procrastinator. You might find that I’m most productive
towards the end of the month when there’s a deadline looming.
Top to bottom, left to right: Wonky Birds & Bees Pillow, Windmill QFB Block, Tissue Paper Petals Quilt, Elephant Parade Quilt, Wonky Pinwheel Block, Pleated Pouches, Feather Blocks, Beckett's Stacks Quilt, Children at Play Skirt
I started sewing about 6 years or so ago when I got it in my head
that I ought to be able to sew.
I taught myself straight from the manual of the cheapest sewing machine that I
could find and was able to do a semi-decent job at following basic patterns. Quilting wasn't really on my radar until a random day when I went into a fun and funky
boutique and saw these GORGEOUS quilts in shabby chic colors. They were made of a variety of fabrics –
chenille, flannel, cotton, silks. Looking
at those throws made me realize that quilts could be whatever you wanted them
to be – they didn't have to be sewn from your Grandma’s calicoes!
I started teaching myself to quilt from a couple books and then
quickly started gathering as much info as I could from the quilt blogging
community. There was so much out there
in the blogosphere that was AMAZING that it was practically crippling. And this thing called “modern
quilting” – it all seemed right up my alley! I guess it really must be since I’ve joined two
modern guilds in the past two years. If
you are ever in doubt about joining a guild, just check out one meeting to see
if it’s for you. Every “Show and Tell”
that I see makes me want to get back home and start up a new project!
Some things that I’ve learned so far in my quilting journey…
I looooove me a rainbow quilt.
I seem to be a having a long-term affair with Roy G. Biv that doesn't look like its ending any time soon. Please don't tell my husband.
Going clockwise: Ron Swanson Mini Quilt, Princess Bride Cross-Stitch, Baby Pig Pincushion, "Old Lady" block from Goodnight Moon Quilt
I like a little funk in my sewing…and a lot of the “fun” in my
funkiness comes from pop culture.
I’d really like to join in a Bee…but my savvy procrastination
always makes me think that I’ll let the group down. I’m thinking that I’ll force myself to take
the plunge next year. I’m using the
Sisters' Ten BOM to ease my way into the pond.
Mini quilts are an absolutely fabulous way to get some instant gratification through fabric. A regular quilt takes me a while from beginning to end, but mini quilts get finished in a snap (and are a great way to try out a new block pattern that you're interested in)!

So many lovely quilts. And I love a good procrastination & a looming deadline - it always stresses my other half out how I always leave it til the 'last minute'. Sometimes I'd like to be more organised but I think it's just part of being crafty for me!!!!
ReplyDeleteI can see why you have a fascination for rainbow quilting... Your work in this area is a pleasure to see! Thanks for giving us a peek into your quilting life. Sew glad you are a part of the Hop this summer!

Eeeek!!! You did a Ron Swanson quilt??? O.m.goodness!! I love it and I'm so jealous. He's my boyfriend and I really should make one to pay tribute to our undying love! Ok, deep breath. No but really, it's gorgeous as is your On the Boardwalk! Love! You have great style, procrastination or not, you create awesome quilts. :)
ReplyDeleteI like your site...the colors and style are great! Thank you for introducing yourself to all of us. Your quilts are outstanding!
ReplyDeletelove your style and I love me a rainbow quilt too!!
ReplyDeleteand your X's and O's has caught my eye - stunning colors.
Wow - you have been sew busy - I love your bright and happy style ! Thanks for sharing! jan@sewandsowfarm
ReplyDeleteForgot to tell you - I am a new follower too:)
DeleteLots of gorgeous projects here - I especially like the orange peel quilt (and Ron, of course). The bright and cheerful colours are lovely too!
ReplyDeleteYour projects are fabulous! It was great getting to know you better :)
ReplyDeleteYour rainbow quilts are amazing! I also love the x and o quilt, the colours are so good. Excellent blog hop post, it was great to get to know all your lovely work.
ReplyDeleteYou make such beautiful things Stephanie! I really like that little carnival mini.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilts! Especially the rainbow-y ones. Just beautiful :) I pretty much taught myself to sew and quilt the same way! Just saw a quilt one day and was like, "I bet I could make that." And I'm so glad I did.
ReplyDeleteLovely getting to know you!
Beautiful quilts! I love them all. I see you are in the Sister's Ten BOM too. I can't wait to get that one done, I love the layout.
ReplyDeleteI was great to get to know you better through the hop!
Such a great array of beautiful sewing stuff. I love that xo mini, the colours are super bright which is super fantastic!!
ReplyDeleteI am with you on the rainbow quilts. I love colour and the brighter the better. What a great collection of projects you have done.
ReplyDeleteYou have made some beautiful projects! Your feathers are gorgeous and I quite like your paintbox quilt. I remember admiring them in the past and your photo reminds me I should plan to make one of my own. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteStephanie, you have done a TON of really great things (that you already know I really admire)! It's so fun to see them all lined up here together. I'm thinking the two of us should engineer some kind of rainbow "quilt-off" challenge for SMQG or something. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also considering joining a bee. I'm pretty sure I can handle it, but can't really figure out how to find an appropriate one. Do you have any pointers on how to find one?
Hi nice to meet you properly, although I am sure I have seen your stuff before!
ReplyDeleteI love your feather blocks and your Ron Swanson quilt. We are HUGE Parks and Rec fans and I find myself saying "Treat Yo Self" entirely too often :)
ReplyDeleteI adore the colours in your quilts! The brightness is stunning! So many wonderful projects makes for amazing eye candy!
ReplyDeleteI love me a mini quilt. We are having a Roy G. Biv love affair in my home - mostly due to my three-year-old daughter. Ron Swanson is da bomb! I'm a new follower on bloglovin. Thanks for sharing your awesomeness with the world!
ReplyDeleteProcrastinators Unite!!
Super in love with your sisters 10 blocks - the colours with the background you choose is going to make one amazing quilt!!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about the crippling amount of inspiration! It's easy to spend more time reading blogs than sewing! I joined my first two bees this year and I have to say two is enough! The months seem to roll around really quickly! But it's so good for trying things you wouldn't normally and for me there's nothing like a deadline!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks for the Sister's Ten BOM are gorgeous! I know how you feel about joining things. It is hard for me to join as well due to time constraints and I don't want to let people down either!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! You have so many beautiful projects! I totally encourage you to join a bee-the connection with other people is great and I have made so many blocks I never would have tried if it weren't for bees. I too am a procrastinator, but also dependable, so do my "homework" sewing first-than the rest of the month is mine:). And I love NH-I went to school in MA and we'd hop over to NH sometimes for a retreat. So pretty there!
ReplyDeleteThe Sister's Ten BOM blocks look great. I do agree a mini quilt is a great way to learn new things.
ReplyDeleteHahaha I love that you started to sew because you felt it was something you ought to be able to do ;) And sew, you can!! I've always wondered about mini quilts (I've never done one myself as I can't quite figure out their function from a practicality standpoint) but I totally get using them as a learning mechanism... interesting!
ReplyDeleteA lovely post! Your work is beautiful! I have been a fan since I first saw your Little Bookworms quilt (SO amazing)! So nice to meet you through the blog hop!
ReplyDeleteI am gald not beeing the only one having a Drama queen at home LOL.
ReplyDeleteLove your work!
I learned to sew about the same time! Except it was my grandma who got it into her head I should sew, not me ;) It's great to learn something like that so young, right? It's a good background skill to have, even if you don't utilize it.
ReplyDeleteThe discovery of modern quilts was mind-blowing to me, too! I can use all my favorite fabrics??? Oh, yes, I'm on board.
I just love your work! It is so bright and fun:) I would love to know the story behind the Ron Swanson quilt...I knew exactly who it was though, lol. Great post girl!
ReplyDeleteNice to "meet" you, you have some great projects going on there!
ReplyDeleteI love your boardwalk quilt - I could see that in my house!
ReplyDeletestephanie, your blog was one of the first that i found and you definitely have my all time favorite quilt: bookworms. still obsessed with it and want to replicate all of your fussy cuts. perfection! glad you're on the hop and so glad i found your blog - so much inspiration!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE all of your rainbow quilts, I think I need to make one:) Also, great fabrics for your sister's ten blocks!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilts, I'm also an avid procrastinator and worry about letting a bee group down but on the flip side I always get my "homework" done, so trying a block of the month as my trial one-person bee this year
ReplyDeleteExcited to see more from you! I'm coming over from the blog hop and glad to find you.
ReplyDeleteGreat to meet you Stephanie! Your projects are beautiful. I really love your color paint boxquilt
ReplyDeleteGosh I don't even know where to begin! I looooove so many of your quilts, most notably your Tissue Paper Petals Quilt, Ron Swanson Mini Quilt, Little Bookworms (oh geez I could go on forever). I am definitely adding you to my Bloglovin'!!! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteSuch great stuff in here! I've yet to do a rainbow quilt but I'm fairly certain that I will be hooked once I do :) Lovely to meet you and you've got a subscriber in me!
ReplyDeleteLove the ROYGBIV and Funk! Keep up the fun work =] I am subscribing so I don't miss any of your beautiful quilts.
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie! I haven't tried a rainbow quilt yet, but it is something that is on my to do list. I just have a hard time sewing with reds and purples. Thanks for sharing with us!
ReplyDeleteI can totally relate the to your tendency towards procrastination. My husband puts it more positively by saying that I just have a very high stress threshold (so I don't do things until they are absolutely urgent) ;) Your work is lovely!
ReplyDeleteHi Stephanie, I'm a procrastinator too!! :-) Lovely yo meet you, your quilts are beautiful, Sarah x
ReplyDeleteProcrastinators unite! I saw that Ron Swanson quilt in people's quiltcon photos and was in love, glad to have found the creator :) Your stuff is fun and awesome, good to meet you!
ReplyDeleteHey Liz! Thanks so much for the compliments - my Swanson quilt is actually a mini version of the original done by Monica Solorio-Snow (Happy Zombie in blogland). Her's was the one that was on display - and won ribbons! - at Quiltcon. She did a Swansonalong on her blog last summer if you're interested in creating one of your own! :)
DeleteTalk about procrastinating- I'm a week late visiting :( All of your quilts are fab and I admire Mr. Roy G Biv myself. I like being in block swaps because that's how I make new blocks in different colors than I would normally choose for myself.
ReplyDeleteHey girl! Sorry I'm a bit late in throwing some LGA love your way as a fellow hop member! You had me at Roy G Biv and pop culture! Let me go push that follow button!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I love your rainbow quilts, especially Circle Peeps. I love the Princess Bride cross-stitch too. I've been thinking about joining a bee too, but I'm just not ready yet.
ReplyDeleteLove the ROY G BIV quilts! I can never get enough of them. There is something so fun and beautiful about them. Great post, I am now a follower!
